- Specials The name Phuguri comes from the Lepcha language and means small bamboo bushes. In the early days of Darjeeling, the Nepalese nobleman Dakman Rai helped the British to build a military road and by providing labour. In return, he was given land on which he planted Phuguri among others from 1875 to 1880. The ecologically balanced estate stretches across the ridge and slopes of the Phalut mountain range on the border with Nepal. Constant rainfall and the special soil here create outstanding teas.
